HOW TO BECOME A CATALENA COWGIRL

Tryouts are during the first part of January. The first practice covers the rules and regulations and includes some riding. The second weekend will be all riding and we will also make decisions on which girls we invite to come back for the third weekend, that will include final reviews for selection.


TIME

This organization, our rodeos, events, practices and meetings must be a priority for you. If we cannot depend on you, we cannot use you. 

We start each new year with practice in early January. Many weekends are two day practices to get us ready for our busy season. Most of our rodeos are 3-day events that usually begin on Thursdays. Before the first nights' rodeo we usually have a short practice to run through the drill and clean it up.

ROOKIE EXPECTATIONS

As a Rookie, you will not see a great deal of riding time your first year. However, you will be included in all functions. You will do support work for the performances and represent the Cowgirls in publicity roles such as autograph signings and public appearances.

GUIDELINES

• You must be at least 21 years of age and not over 30.
• Appearance is a top priority with our team, and as such, weight is an important consideration for all members of our team. Our motto is "You must be able to fit in the chaps."
• You must be a team player.
• You must be an excellent rider and you must be able to think and ride.
• We supply the horses, unless you have a paint and it fits our requirements.
• We supply most of the performance uniforms except for jeans and boots.
• We pay fees on rare occasions
• We cover hotels and some meals for the Cowgirls only and transportation if we fly or charter a bus.
• We supply saddles and tack unless you want to use yours and it fits our requirements.
